Enhancing Outcomes for New Zealand's Youth

Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ uses international research and local evaluations to guide its practice and programme delivery.

Quantifying the results of our mentoring network in New Zealand is important to us and we regularly test our programmes against international evidence based best practice standards.

Regular analysis and research helps ensure successful outcomes for our young people, our volunteers and their families.

What our Mentors, Mentees, and Whanau Have to Say:

Mentees

“It's great having someone know how I feel instead of keeping it all inside.”

“He’s always there to ring up and stuff and when I’m angry, he cools me down.”

“She is the one that I can get all my emotional things out with and I don’t feel lonely.”

“We get to go places I haven't been before, like the first time she took me to the beach.”

Mentors

“As much as you put in, you get back and much more.” Peter

“You can have an impact on people, it's no easy fix, it does take time but it’s that contact over time that makes the difference.” Tama

“I have been able to show him the wider world, open up his ideas. When we first met up, he talked about being a mechanic, now he’s talking about travelling the world.” Jane

“I love it when she laughs uncontrollably, it makes my heart soar.” Dana

Whanau

“I think you’re really awesome with my child, doing a great job. He comes home happy, he’s never been so calm.” Jacob's Uncle

“You have been the most consistent male figure in his life... he just adores you.” Nikau's Kuia

"It's great my daughter has a positive female role model who loves spending time with her." Lucy's Mum

“Whoever provides funding should provide more for such a brilliant service, my family and I’d like that blessing to go to others who need it.” Aroha's Dad
